“I dream of donuts,” says the little boy in the TV promotion. No, not maple bars and cake donuts. The race car kind of donuts. This is my son’s favorite part of NASCAR, when the winner does donuts, driving his race car around in circles and burning up his tires. This little boy is one of many youngsters talking about their favorite part of racing in a great new NASCAR television ad campaign. One little girl says “I dream of being a 10” in reference to Danica Patrick. The ad ends with a boy saying “I dream of being a race car driver.” The ad is effective because it taps into our childhood dreams and passions of racing fast and being the hero. I can see my son saying the exact same things about why he loves NASCAR. I can see myself saying the same things, too. The promotional spot reminds us that the themes of NASCAR hit us while we are young and are universal enough that they stay with us for a lifetime.
