“I put hot sauce and pepper sauce on nearly everything – even my Fruity Pebbles.” Those are words of wisdom from America’s favorite Uncle, Duck Dynasty’s Si Robertson, in his bestselling autobiography Si-cologoy101. Uncle Si is my favorite character on the show and my wife gifted me his book for our anniversary.Thank you, dear. It was such a fun, easy read I finished the 229 pages in 24 hours. When I get passionately into a book, I can read almost non-stop and I did that with Si’s memoir. It is full of fun, family and faith. I learned some new tidbits about Uncle Si along the way:
1) He is deathly afraid of snakes.
2) He had quite the drinking problem when he served our country in Vietnam.
3) He used to be a smoker.
4) His first wife was married once before.
5) His only son was diagnosed with Asperger’s.
Si was the youngest of the Robertson boys, two years younger than Mr. Happy Happy Happy himself, Phil. Of course he grew up hunting and fishing and living on the Louisiana land and the book is full of those types of outdoor adventures. Love for his family is a central theme of each chapter, each page. Si is a family man through and through. Uncle Si’s Christian faith is also mentioned throughout the book but not totally fleshed out until the last chapter, which serves as a personal testimony of sorts.
My nephew came over to the house today and I recommended the book to him. He is home-schooled and I reckon it would make a great book for youngsters and an interesting book report. It is an exciting and humorous read where you can find out just how Si Robertson’s life got all his ducks in a row.
